Domain Name industry is constantly evolving. By mid-2016, the Internet had nearly 334,6 million Domain names worldwide, according to a report published by Verisign. Recently, this company published the results of its study: Internet now counts nearly 330 million Domain Names.
Internet increased by 6,8%
Oh wait! How can we speak of an increase when last year there were 334,6 million Domain names in the world and that in February2017 it counts 329,3 million? We are not going to fall into the numbers battle but there is a difference of nearly 5 million!
This difference could be explained by the fact that the volume of domain names in .tk (free extension of the Tokelau which has no good press) was somewhat overestimated by Zooknic. In addition, as Verisign indicates, some data are only estimations and are subject to evolution the time to have the final information.
Anyway, there is no doubt that these numbers will continue to change. It is a safe bet that the internet will continue its growth and will soon count 500 million of domain names in a few years.
Distribution of TLDs
.COM and .NET extensions continue their overall growth, reaching a combined total of nearly 142,2 million domain names by the end of 2016.
